Checkmate called Stalemate

Sort:

Hi I'm new to chess, I played an awesome game with someone but in the end it was called stalemate, but I really don't understand why...

Can someone explain me this ?

Isn't it a checkmate ?

no checkmate is when you check and have nowhere to move

If you moved your Queen to (a6 or a7 or b4 or b5) it would have been Checkmate.

If you look at the square that the king is on, it is not in check. As all other squares are, the king cannot move so it is stalemate.

Here is a chess.com lesson that covers the absolute basics about the game.

It's better than random guys trying to explain.

It was especially you whose explanation was misleading and useless.
