I am also struggling with king queen vs king rook mate. Everyone says you need to force the defender towards the philidor position, but how do you do that?

I tend to just move the queen aimlessly and hope the opponent blunders a fork.
By far the best course of action when faced with K+Q and K+R.

I think you needa move your queen to a more centralized square and get your wueen behind the defenderโs king
I just managed checkmate with a p+k vs. k don't know how i did it.. but it happened

You have to actually have a winning position, there are some instances where the rook side can fortress.
the king must hide in the only safe square witch is c1 in then white is winning
