am i the only one noticing more rude/impatient players?

I've been immune so far.  Haven't had any rude or impatient players in a couple of hundred games.

Unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast when it comes to free chess on the internet. You can get good games on ICC and Playchess, BUT.....you'll have to pay for it. On the other hand, you can play for free on Yahoo and lots of other sites, but you will undoubtedly run into the many neanderthals who frequent those sites.

reti2rumble wrote: No, Levi, you are not alone.  I recently posted in the forum titled "Politeness" regarding my experience here with rude players.  It's averaged about one in ten games and some of the chat is unrepeatable;  however, each of these individuals offered no challenge whatsoever on the chessboard, where it really matters.  Each received an almost gratuitous "0" for their efforts.  Emotional immaturity was a factor.  I also believe this display of "bravado" was a cover for lack of skill and meant to distract.  In each case the tactic failed and I got the "1" with justice being served.

haha yeah, of the two i had in mind, both were easily vanquished :)

if they are rude just use the "Report Abuse" link at the bottom of every page and they will get a warning.

I get an occasional rude opponent but all in all things are fine. at least that's my experience; maybe I've been lucky.

Iwish this would be the one site that idiots steered clear of. What kind of nitwit uses a software program to play the game for him? You are supposed to learn from your mistakes. Learning from your mistakes will make you a better player.  What will happen when one of these "cheaters" plays a ace to face game?

Believe it or not I haven't played a game with a rude player yet. I've actually had decent people on FICS and Yahoo too. Maybe it's because I always greet them and I initiate being polite. I find that you get what you give most of the time.

Hehe I still hadn't figured out that you could call yahoo users yahoos, which would fit "them" quite nicely. Haha, yahoo chose their name right!

I had all sorts of problems when I played on yahoo as a beginner. I've been playing on FICS for years, and I've only run into one such nitwit. He quit out of a game when I forked his king and queen with my knight, then reconnected and refused to resume the adjourned game. When I sent him a message, he told me rather rudely that I should resign. I sent it to FICS abuse, they adjudicated it as a win for me.

I haven't had any problems here, though I've also only played about a dozen games here so far, including the ones that are still ongoing. Some of my opponents haven't said anything at all, even when I say hello, but other than that, no rudeness.

I don't think that Yahoo is so bad. I haven't run into any rude people. I think that yahoo's different rooms have different people. The 'Social' room seem worse that the 'intermediant' ones. The real problem with yahoo is that it sometimes freezes when your opponent takes one of your pieces and you're looking through the history.

On FICS, in 200 games I encountered 2 abusive players and 2 possible cheaters. Folks don't want their accounts removed, so they generally behave well. I don't worry about someone leaving in a lost position because the review board will simply adjudicate the game as a win for me.

If you play unregistered players, the situation is somewhat different.

Just follow erik's advice.  Anywhere there are the sheep and the goats, but there is the shepherd!

I've had the occassional goober "yelling" MOVE!!!, because they don't get the whole 'move in one day' concept, but overall this site is mighty neighborly.
