Vote Chess suggestion: Liberals vs. Conservatives

Wouldn't that be a nice battle ? Imagine the flame wars, the fierceness of the game ;)

JohnR

It would be fun, although conservatives would obviously win.

Golwar

Of course they would JohnR, if chess would allow WMD, preemptive strikes etc.

But as chess is a fair game they would have to act on completly unknown ground, hehe.

I was thinking the same thing.

It's also complicated in an international community like this one. "Liberal" and "conservative" are subjective terms, and mean different things depending on where you are.

SonofPearl
Definitely not allowed, I would think!  Can you imagine the arguments?!

True, but how is that important ?

If you regard yourself liberal you join them, that's all. And it's not like one would really care, or why is half of the "Over 1800" team obviously in the wrong team ?

@ kohai

Had no idea that those are not welcome *shrug*

Please stop this idea because it might split the chess communitity, we do not need chess.com to be partisan by any standards.

I agree with rgp89,this is a place for people to get together and share their ideas and learn about chess, and enjoy playing. We do not need to find ways to divide us,when we have already found a way to unite. That is the problem with people in politics, they are aways trying to find ways to divide people instead of uniting them. And this is coming from someone who is very political and keeps up on everything about his own countrie's and even world politics. This is my escape from everyday life.

How about Communists  vs Capitalists

In Soviet Russia chess plays you !!

 (sorry couldn't resist)

Chessstudent

how about cheater_1  and  pedro823 as captains?????

....................cant we all get along?

mugggsy

I don't think it would lead to a division: in all of the games I have played in, the opposite sides don't even talk. the arguing seems to happen among the teams themselves.

I THOUGHT POLITICS IS OUT OF THIS SITE,ISN'T IT?
Unbeliever
I do not think that we need a politically divided game on Chess.com.  Besides, is not Chess.com vs. a Grandmaster to start soon?
NimbleKnight
The liberal would probably win because there would be less kids to distract the liberal.
Rabid_Dog
Muggsy has a point.  In the 1979 election when the Conservatives won a landslide victory with many new Members of Parliament a particularly naive member sat down in the House and looked at the Labour party on the other side saying 'It's good to get a good sight of the old enemy at last.'  The older and far wiser MP next to him said 'No Sir.  That is the honourable opposition.  The enemy are on this side'!
