Vacation?

Wat is vacation supposed to be used to and wen? The newest rule for vacation is that every game needs to be opponents turn, created (probably quite just) because opponent within 30sek on a domed game set vacation so not to loose. I wanted to open a discussion on this fact, on which grounds vacation may be used. Iv probably bin quite annoying in the past, as i tend to set vacation wen I'm sick, or wen I suddenly realise that i cant get home in time to make a move (I'm a scout, and tend to get stuck in the woods for a weekend, usually calling home to make my brother set vacation so i can continue playing wen i return) and making a move in every game usually isn't an option. Another problem with the vacation rule is that people playing several games at once have a hard time making moves in every game long enough to set vacation (realised this wen i was sick and tried to move in every game). I'm looking for a general opinion, and ways to solve the problem.
My suggestion: Allow vacation to be set wen its 1 days or mor left to move in every game, and giving a reason for the vacation

I think vacation should have a minimum time when activated such as one day. I'm liking this idea that moves have to be made in all pending games before going back on vacation. I have a guy right now in a mate in one who plays all of his other games then goes back on vacation without playing me. I think he's waiting for my rating to go up so he'll lose less points.

I have used vacation a couple of times when I was away from the internet for a couple of days or just tired of playing, so I definitely want it kept. But alot of people are using it as a weapon.

Of course, I have just found that Thanksgiving is a great weapon for getting time out wins but that's for another topic... 

My suggestion could be like this...

Like we have each move time frame stipulation, we also should have each game vacation time frame ( Individual game vacation time.)

Sothat opponants can choose the challenger based on not only with move time frame but also based on vacation time.

Once we have vacation time attached with inmdividual game challenger has the pressure to complete on time and cannot be used for silly reasons.

also vacation time for each game could vary from 1day to maximum 7 days, since it is only for particular game.

Matalino and myself may be in the minority, by the forums it seems we may be. But I am in full agreement with Matalino.

You simply cannot judge the intent of another player who plays inside the rules agreed to by the site and the challenge itself.

Vacation is available to all players equally. How people choose to use it is completely up to that individual. Time limits are agreed to in the challenge. If you don't like the time limit, don't accept the challenge. People talk of "good faith" intentions, setting the time limit for 5 days should the "worst happen", but they really require their opponent to play at least a move a day. This is hogwash. If for whatever reason a player wants to use the full extent of their time limit, even if they don't want to face losing the game... so be it. It was agreed to before the game. As Matalino expressed... this is a severe minority of people who do this, but this is not abuse.

It seems many people are posting their frustration over abuse of these things, but it is my belief that it isn't the majority of people who are frustrated with it.

I personally log in everyday, and i make moves in most of my games everyday. But I don't give it a second thought if my opponent goes up to the expiration time and then makes a move... that is why we have multiple games going on.

And vacation... why even question why your opponent uses it. If he can't bare the thought of losing because he blundered... oh well.. i win in 3 weeks instead of tonight... no big deal.

Though... one suggestion perhaps... if the 'you must make your moves before you go on vacation' rule is here to stay.. can it at least go game by game.. so that once you initiate vacation, you still have to make your move within the time limit, but once you make your move that game goes into vacation mode? Otherwise people with many games are hurt trying to get their moves made in all their games without one of their opponents moving in the meantime.

I think this would take some extra programming, but it should be possible.

I take a two week holiday every summer. If there is a maximum of 7 days vacation in any game, how am I (and the many other people in the same situation) meant to cope? The users only have a certain amount of vacation anyway, it is not like they are postponing it indefinately. If you are winning, then you will get your win at some point, so just open another game while you wait for it to finish.

 Better we have to have voting in home pags for this topic for all our members with , what ever Ideas Eric has in his mind, sothat we can quickly upgrade chess.com....

You cannot give 7 Days max for vacation, this is no good to players who take a 2 week holiday!!! 30 to 40 days is about right! Some people take 2 holidays a year! It is not nice to get abuse with vacation time, but it is not right to take away a players right to a holiday!!

 you only get 1 week vacation in the US... in Sweden its usually 3 months. And o, well finish the game... wen we get back!
