Vacation time-must move in all games?!

I'm not sure where to put this so I am putting it here. I don't have much time because I have to get back to schoolwork which is driving me up the wall. I don't know if I am the only one or not but I am not liking this "you have to move in all your games before you can take vacation time." I play a lot of games and I have lost a lot lately due to time and some I just reguraly lost-but both of these are due to my lack of time to get on and move in all my games as of late. I'm sorry but I need a break, and now I can't have one until I move in my 20 games (each of which I want to actually think about before moving)? It may solve the problem of people taking vacation for losses, but it creates abother one-those of us who honestly need the vacation time and can't get it. I'm just soooooooo stressed out right now....so much to do so little time, and this just adds to my many problems.

If it helps, I would say that you should just gradually work your way down to less games so you're not so stressed out. That's what I'm doing right now, since I plan to be offline for a while during Thanksgiving. Also, don't accept challenges at this point, since that will only give you more games to think about.

Just play a couple games at a time and just decline offers.Cool

I set my defaults to refuse challenges and invites.

It seems like this way of avoiding vacation abuse is impacting honest people negatively. Is this a case of the cure being worse than the disease?

Yeah in my opinion Erik, you are now in a position where you let yourself be dictated by a bunch of whinny people. Vacation is a very necessary tool when playing games that can last as long as these games in this format.

Currently I have only a few games going, but at some-stages I had close to 50 going, and at any given time of day, some of those 50 competitors were on-line and made moves just as I finished my move, so by the time I finished the moves I had to do, there were a new bunch waiting. This will certainly create problems if you need to use vacation.

I know you are trying to keep everyone happy but I can assure you it can't be done. Part of the community thing is learning how your new found online friends behave. The ones I have pleasant games with I play again the ones working on my nerves I avoid. Easy peasy.

most people would be understanding if you asked them to not move straight away and wait for a day or so, i know i wouldn't mind if someone asked me in the chat forum on each game, i'm very busy at the moment as i have just bought another business, i'm going to be at 11:30 and getting up at 6am and in between during the day i don't have time to move very often and even less time to think about each move, my rating has suffered because of this.

Note: just let people know your position and I'm sure people will understand and help you where possible. (The good people in society.

I am playing 12 or so games right now, and I really wanted to take a vacation during this Thanksgiving week, but I could not because of this stupid rule. As soon as I played a move, some one else played another move. And I could never finish all my moves at one time. As the original poser mentioned, I really want to think about these games because I am playing against some really good players. I had to sneak out of my family time to get online a couple of times in the last week, and upsetting my wife, just so I do not lose my games on time.

I think playing only a few games as others suggested would work, but when I really have some time, I like to play a lot of games. I just need a time-out once in a while. Also I am sure Eric and his team would want people to use their website more and not less. So this is not really an option, in my mind.

I think we should try to stop the abuse, but in this case, it is really hurting the honest ones. I humbly request to Eric and his team to scrap this rule...

The chat could be disabled by some people. Some other people may not speak the same language...

hey friend

I think you should gradually change your games to some games of (7 days per move), don't accept challanges of less time per move, some short time and you'll have all your games of (7 days per move) and put a limit to your games at once. (lets say 15 or 20) then you'll not be stressed too much.

You can be away 7 days without lose!! I think most players will not decline playing (7 days per move), if they did, send them messages or try to play with someone else.

I haven't tried to take vacation and don't play many games, but I can see how difficult it would be when playing against the speed-movers to even get to the point where you're allowed to take leave.  It's a good idea, but seems more harmful than anything else.

I thought I was playing a game....chess....I understand your points, I would say this...pretend you are playing in a simul, the many i have played in, the GM did not spend more than 10-15 secs looking at the postion after i made my move, I have won a few simuls too by the way!!!! If you can look at the daily puzzles and guess at the first move, than I am sure you can look at any given position and pick a candidate move, right? so, what if you chose a bad move, resign, and move on....it is all fun, recreation....I am not trying to talk badly to you, I am only suggesting, along with everyone else that your priorities are just as messed up as mine and everyone elses, and sometimes life gets in the way of chess.....I played this morning 2hours on this site until I took my daughter to school at 8am, came home played for another 2 1/4 hours and then went to play in a mini blitz otb get together with 3 others best of 7. 3 rounds, then pick my daughter up at 3, eat take her to piano lessons, meet my wife, come home....now its 7:45 and i've been at it here since 6:45, ISNT LIFE GRAND!!!

Once again, honesty is the base on everything in life. Please is a player knows that he or she is going on vacation, do not accept any chanllenges simple of that.
