The use of engines in UNrated games?

I asked this question to the online help folks and got a clear answer. The answer is however not entirely in line with the answer I found in the help file. So, I decided to ask yet again (sorry for being such an red tape addict):

Is it OK to use an engine in an unrated game if both players agree/accept the use of engines?

(I plan to play a heap of unrated games trying to learn an opening)

If both players agree to use engines in an unrated game, then it's okay!
There's nothing wrong with that because your oppenent gave you permission!

If your oppenent doesn't want you to use an engine, then I wouldn't
use the engine.

Thank you! Sounds very reasonable. Is that also the official www.chess.com position?

Well my opinion is there are better ways to study openings, play main lines first in games then play some variations without the engine. The point of doing that (or doing what you want to) is to UNDERSTAND what the point is of moves its telling you to make.

If both players agree BEFORE the UNRATED game then it is fine to use a computer in that game only.
