I like it.
Teaching!
Lol I do that already, checkbox or not... unfortunately it's not as fun as you'd think... some people are jerks.
So at this point I rarely take new 'students'... I have a few whom I particularly enjoy playing with / teaching and they have as a group improved on average 50 points in the past month! THAT is satisfying!
Something like this, though challenging to add to the system I am sure, ought to have a teacher rating attached to it, based on student survey or something. Some people may have great ratings at actually playing but be virtualy inept at helping someone else see how they think through a game or a puzzle. An approval rating of some sort could allow for any number of things, higher teacher ratings wuld allow someone to work with more students if preferred, while limiting the number of students one might work with at first to 3 or 4 in order to focus more.
Of course then you end up with players wanting a teacher but not having enough teachers available at the time. Or, possibly, another venue for someone in a game to be asking advice from a teacher on that rated game elsewhere. Set a limit to the rated games a student might be playing while listed as a student, or bar the students from rated games outside a specified rating range. Of course, as cheater1 will attest, there is no way to eliminate cheating fully in any sort of correspondence chess because some just aren't interested in testing their own skill. (OK, I'll get off the soap box.)
Hi!, this being a greeter thing give me an idea what about of being a teacher?.
So, people will have a choice of being a teacher, that is, willing to play an unrated game with somebody and to teach him chess. We can have a checkbox in our online chess settings for that.
But of course, nobody can be a teacher, you'll have to have a minimun rating, let's say 1600/1700 or something like that, and you can only teach to people below you rating (or you can eve specify which rating range will you be willing to teach).
And, in order to teach correctly, there must be some changes in the game, in teaching game, taking back moves should be allowed, as well as saving the variations in the PGN game.
What do you think?
