i agree, then if someone is losing, they will just go back to the starting position and you lose your train of thought

I think the twin analysis board concept would benefit if the comment box and analysis boards were instantaneous like msn messenger (so manual refreshing was not need, but each player still has to submit moves, variations and comments). And instead of a take back option both players could agree to go to change the board setup to any position, whether it is 5 or 8 moves back or to a position at the end of a variation that either of them previously posted.

What about a method for setting up live coaching/unrated game appointments? They could just message each other normally to arrange this instead though.

I can see where this could be helpful in unrated games - a method for players to teach or discuss their way through the whole game instead of the gaming ending and the better player not having the full oportunity to help the other.

i think only one take back at a time would be a little slow. maybe having the option of how may turns you would like to go back when your asking for the takeback.

If both parties agree to a "takebacks" game, you could have the "Moves" tab do double duty as the "Takeback" tab.  A player could click on the move (however far back it may be) that he would like to revert to.  The opponent would then be asked if he/she agreed to a takeback to that point in the game.  This should allow for a good amount of code recycling.

we have read all of this. it actually is more complicated than it sounds. we will probably do it at some point where you both enter "takeback mode" by mutual agreement and then either party can take back as many moves as necessary.
