Take Move Back facility

I was wondering whether, in unrated games, it might be possible to set up a request 'take move back' facility so that consenting players can learn in the same  way that you might do in a friendly environment over the board.

I don't think this would be appropriate in rated games, but maybe a facility to replay an existing game from a given position might be handy - setting up a new game from the agreed position (having no effect on the initial game where the error/variation occurs).

We all learn by mistakes - maybe this could speed up our learning process...

I'd be interested to see what people think about this and whether it results in a change to the current (excellent, I must say) site settings.

It's something I've never seen on other sites and yet is a good idea.  This is just one more way to take chess.com above and beyond other sites (moreso than now :P!).

the facility is there even for rated games in the 2 offshoots of ics - ie icc and fics [the takeback command]. in rated games it creates nothing but an opprtunity for certain unpleasant people to request takeback and call you names if you dont :)

Erik has said that this will likely be part of a "coaching mode" that is planned for some point in the future.

For an unrated game, I think the take back a move feature would be a great idea.  I am in total agreement with you.

Sounds like a great idea for unrated games.

What about for Little Chess partner too?

So far, so good - I think I'll put up a separate post regarding the set-up from existing game position option for rated games, since it seems to be overlooked in this thread. Admittedly, it was an afterthought and strictly speaking a different topic.

The new topic for this secondary idea is here: New game from any given position option.
