I agree, these would be nice to know. On Chess Tactics Server it's easy to see whether your rating's in the top 50%, top 10%, etc.
Statistics on the rating pool

I looked for a little while, but couldn't find anything like statistics on the rating pool such as # of rated or active players, average rating, a rating distribution, etc. If these are available and I just didn't look in the right place, that would be great. If not, it would be nice to be able to find them. Other chess playing sites I know of have these kinds of statistics available. I think it gives more meaning to the rating number.
