New membership level suggestion

Sort:
RedDalek

I would like to suggest a new membership level: Bronze. Bronze level membership would be the same as Basic level except: Most tournaments (similiar to Silver & Gold), no ads & perhaps a longer game archive (6 months ?). Cost: Around $20 - $25 a year. This price would be very competitive with other sites. But, I don't know if the costs of the added features exceed $20 - $25 a year. Undecided

interesting suggestion. i was thinking perhaps we do a bronze like this:

$17.95 for a year - same as silver/gold, but you do see ads, no chessmentor discount, and no POPmail...

thoughts?

That sounds great.  I would sign up for that for sure.

$17.95 for a year would be a bargain!

I'm a gold member but I haven't a clue what POPmail is anyway so I'm doubtful as to its value!

That sounds like a good idea.  I won't sign up for it because I'm already a gold member, but I would if I weren't.  :)

just wait - when we launch live chess, tournaments, and opening explorer all in the next 60 days then $29.95 will be an even better bargain. :)

Quite honestly, I think you would experience too much cannibalization of the gold membership package.

None of the above features could get me to go from bronze to gold.

Maybe if you removed tactics trainer and other training instruments from bronze?

So that you have:
- Free: Basic Features
- Bronze: All playing related features (stats, create tournaments etc.)
- Silver/Gold: All playing related features + some training features

erik
agreed. we will not be adding an additional level.

Which makes me hesitant to purchase today. I think the two things I'm most interested in are the tactics trainer and the opening explorer. I think it takes time for the tactics trainer to equilibrate before it reaches its maximum usefulness. I would also have a bunch of questions about the opening explorer, but those are probably best for another thread and after it is released.

If you're taking suggestions on membership levels, I would suggest something like the "sustaining" membership done by the USCF. The way it is set up now, someone could be a platinum member for 7 years and have already paid more than a lifetime membership. I think it would be nice if you set it up so that someone who is a platinum member for some number of consecutive years (say 8, or whatever you think is fair) would automatically become a life member.

Whats the difference between livechess and what there already is?

Loomis
I went back and looked at the membership page again and I just gotta let people know that if you're paying for a gold membership then you're missing out on a great deal with the Platinum membership. The price difference is $50, but you get an additional gold membership ($30) plus a shirt ($20) which is already $50! Plus you get a discount on chess mentor if that's your thing.

You have to have someone to give the mebership to though Loomis!

As far as a new level I don't think its neccesary.  30$ is not that large an expense if you want the extra features and I am not sure that there is anything you could take away that would make it worth a 10$ price decrease (a meal and a half at Mcds).

Can't wait for all the new stuff!

I think the membership rates are very reasonable, do any of you play golf for example? There are a lot of hobbies out there that will cost you way more then this.

Can I pay extra to be able to ban / smite? That would be cool...Cool
Patzer24
haha, no. Only site administrators like Erik have the power to ban but we try to refrain from using this power unless it is absolutely necessary.

You could simply have a pick'n mix thing, where you select the things you want and pay for each bit, but you'd probably have to set it up so that the people who are paying more in one go are benifiting by doing so...

I'm still saving up for lifetime anyway, so makes no odds to me :P
