More abort options

I think it would be nice if there were more options to abort a game. For example, abort by mutual agreement at any time. Setting the game to abort if my opponent times out would be another nice option.

I have seen someone complain that they shouldn't have gotten a win because their opponent had a much better position, but timed out. If this player could have set "abort on timeout" it would have solved their problem.

Why would you want to abort a game on mutual agreement? I can see why you would want to abort when your opponent times out, but I can't see any reason why you would want to start a game and not finish it otherwise. Isn't a draw an option then? Or just assess the position and agree on who wins and who loses.

Well, it can't hurt to have the option. Smile I'll make up some examples anyway.

Example 1: I'm easily winning against a much lower rated player, but I'm about to take a long vacation. I could put all my games on vacation mode and come back and finish them, but I'd rather come back to a clean slate. I would rather ask my opponent to abort than ask my opponent to resign.

Example 2: I've started so many games I can barely keep up. It's been a week and a half in one of my games and I'm only on move 4. It's a standard opening and neither player has played an original move. I'm having a hard time keeping up with all my games, and my opponent isn't happy with the pace of the game. Perhaps we'd both just like to chuck the game and it's way too early to decide a winner or even call it a draw.

"Well, it can't hurt to have the option."

That is almost true, but not quite. It can hurt in 2 ways: #1 - more options can make for more complexity which can be confusing. #2 - programming options like that take a lot of time, time that could be spent working on projects like Live Chess and others.

So, while I understand your motivation for asking for this, it will probably be more than 1 year before we could get to something like this. :)
