is it better to lose or resign?

Changes nothing. Both count as a loss therefore both lead to you losing the same amount of points determined at the start of the match

It’s just a matter of your preference on how to finish the game.

It's better to loose

Hi,

Just wondering what the difference is to your score if you're check mated or resign first or indeed time out?

Cheers

Trevor

Resigning is just one way of losing. Resigning, timing out, and being checkmated are all ways to lose.

I resign in online chess, but keep playing tournaments.

never resign there is always a chance u will draw or maybe win!

Some believe in never resigning. I don't subscribe to this and I do bow to the inevitable, But I do believe that those who refuse to resign or continue, should only be allowed to play against other like minded scum.

Better to resign. No one said you couldn't give up and those that never give up are just delusional and that they can get a stalemate and it's unsportsmanlike to not resign

It depends, if they have forced mate, I'd let them play it out, but if I'm done a bunch of material with no chances of surviving then ill resign.

Is it more "professional" to tip your king and resign or get checkmated?

At the master level (which I am very far from) it is a sign of respect to resign, at my level, I don't think people care.

there's always a chance of stalemate.

I personally get annoyed if I'm up a queen in an endgame or something and my opponent doesn't resign

that always annoys me.

I actually learned a lot from losing. If you abandon the games, there's nothing to learn.
