Chess.com has something like this set up aready -chessopedia. If you go to the top of the page and click on "learn" you can find it. It shows a description of the openings and has a forum for discussion. eg. here's the ruy lopez page - http://www.chess.com/chessopedia/view/ruy-lopez
pretty cool :)
I guess chess.com has a finite limit of forums they can have but I thing an openings discussion forum would be cool. After all - there is an endgames forum. :)
Okay, so everyone is constantly freaking about opening theory. We should have a subforum or a whole new forum for work on established openings, aka, French, Caro-Kann, Sicilian, Ruy Lopez, etc. Each could be a forum with stickied threads for the Winawar, Advance, etc for the French or the various defenses to the Ruy Lopez.
I think we can limit it to the French, Caro-Kann, Sicilian, Ruy Lopez for 1. e4 and Queen's Gambit Accepted and Declined, Semi-Slav, Slav, KID, and Grunfeld. I don't know enough about 1. c4 to suggest anything or 1. nf3 either.
There are great players or at least people with plenty of detailed analysis on main lines for all of the various defenses to really have a cohesive report on these at least the first half-dozen moves or so.
