Friends Ranking

I know that rankings really aren't meant to be taken that seriously, that they only give an approximation of your skills, and that you should play to learn and get better not to increase ranking.

Still, it would be cool if it was possible to see a ordered list of the people on your friends list (including yourself), so that you could see how you are doing compared to them.

(Come on, I know you're all doing it)

I'm going to have to agree with you on the comparing ratings

Yes, me too.

I have friends ranging from sub one thousand to 2300 (Reb) <we don't have each other on our friends lists but we are mates and I am tracking him>)

Really if you were to only include people as friends here, who compare to your rating, you would have highly restricted paramaters.

I know many people enjoy the competitiveness but I would suggest that you are reducing the quality of your chess.com experience by doing so.

Before I forfeited all my games I could hold 1850 easy. There are people here who arn't nearly my level at chess whom I respect and admire a great deal. Who's general intelligence, general knowledge and quality of posts are superior to my own.

If you want to measure status by rating, ICC is a good place to go. Chess.com is more like a family Smile

a little bit of friendly competition would probably enhance everybodies play plus cheap one upmanship is good for everybody lol.

good idea

I think if people joined teams on FICS and played in a league with people close to their rating, that they might feel different. I would hate to see the friends facility on c.com reduced in this way. Wanting to be the no1 ranked player in your friends list or group on c.com seems like a rather gratuitous grab for an illusion of status to me.

Quixotical,   Why must people always boast about themselves and their playing strength?   Instead,  isn't it better for others to acknowledge us?  This is an Eastern philosophy :  "Don't blow our own trumpet. Let others do it for us!"
Quix

I was boasting?

I thought I was making the point that playing strength should be insignificant to ones place in our community.

I am a medium strength amateur and always will be.

I don't think it sounded like boasting either - loved the quote though

I like the idea of being able to go to a page wherein you view your friends, all listed, and then sort it by a number of things as we can do with all players - most recently online, rating, games played, etc.

It's a good idea.

That is a great idea.!!
But why not just, make it a blank list, and then you can put you own players on it?
In that way you can also track, a close opponent that you like to follow, and you don’t have to track a friend you don’t want to!!
