Feedback on Vote Chess?

Another variation could be used in the form of a tournament for example x number of players all from the same country against a similar number of players from another country. You would probably have to agree a ratings range for the teams first. You could have a world cup of vote chess Laughing

all EXCELLENT suggestions! we will consider them all... the only concern about the early trigger is that some people will miss moves... hrmmm.

maybe if 50% of the team has voted and there is a 30% lead over the next vote?

Right! Perhaps some mimimum time per move is needed and some minimum number of votes to reach a decision. It would be very silly if the move was decided by the first five votes going in the same direction.

Simple rules are preferred! We do not want to bring in the legal system of Florida to reach a decision every now and then..... Wink

It's kinda like cooking.  Let's follow the recipe the first time and then adjust it after we taste the results.

Personally, I'd like to shorten the time, but let's try it out first and see.

i think maybe having smaller groups would be good maybe 10 vs ten because that allows discussion that isn't all muddled up.

the minimum votes for a move can be useful, but then you must choose

everybody dont miss a move, or surprisingly when you wake up, the other half of the world made a move when you sleep?  can be fun too

also, dont show the voting stats before the move, to avoid as the dumb politics ... if ignorants vote for what  MAJORITY likes, will vote for it instead of analizing

I think this is an excellent idea.  It will add suspense and maybe the wait will be more exciting.  As well as TheGrobe said, it will not make people vote for the most popular move, but for the move they think is best.

Agree, but after the move is made then we should see the % of each move.

I'm for this too

I agree with the above posters.

I also agree with the idea of not showing voting results until the move is made.  I sometimes feels like voting for any low ranked move is a wasted vote, and it definately affects my final decision.  I would enjoy not knowing until the end.

that is an option that we can set when we start the game. the next game we start will be FASTER and will be blind voting :)

Point / Counterpoint:

i like seeing the voting breakdown because it makes the game feel more active.  we already have to wait for a while anyway.  now you can check in and see how it is going and it keeps you more involved. of course there may be some sway in the voting, but the social experiment value is worth it.  to go further, i think it would be fun for current voting breakdowns be available to both teams.  that way there would always be some sort of new activity for everyone to see.  there are some that have decided that spying on the enemy is "cheating".  ok, ok, ok, it is.  But knowing how the voting is going on both sides doesn't have to be cheating.  Let's just call it "Early Exit Polling"

maybe some chess.com polls would be a good thing to do a couple of weeks from now?

It's very similar to a chess vote game Kasparov played on MSN games a few years back, where he played MSN members who just had to log in and vote. He won, but i remember it being a close game.

The best way to do the voting is to NOT show before you have voted, but to be able to see the votes AFTER you have voted. Therefore no influence on how people vote but the ability to track how things are going after the fact.

also smaller games like only 10 people

This sounds great as long as we have rules ensuring that members don't post the percentages in the comments section.

why would they do that?

Alex_M
They may do it carelessly: oh dang Nf3's gonna win. I wanted Bc4

Quite true.  Looks like the process will become more streamlined as more games occur.

I was giving this some more thought and it occurred to me that there is a precedent for this type of thing that is used to declare the winner of an election before all of the polls are in.  Unfortunately I've not been able to find an example of the algorithm anywhere.
