Ads?

Well, running the site is a full-time job. Lots of effort has gone into setting it up. Unless the people running it are benevolent multi-millionaires, then they need to eat somehow, so I think that it's fair enough?

Arguably, the fact that you can play unlimited games for free is a pretty good deal...

My wife made me buy a membership so when she was talking to the back of my head she didn't have to look at the ads.  and I was like "what ads?"

I've been meaning to ask for some time how to turn the ads back on - is that possible?
KnightNotHorse
There are ads, granted, but to be honest, NOWHERE can you get so much for free.  Seriously, look at all the other sites around here and tell me if any of them give you half as much as Chess.com does for free.  I really don't know how Erik et al. can put food on the table.  Also, even if you were to compare the price for one year, I think Chess.com is one of the least expensive (if not THE least expensive) site out there.  I don't really understand how people are shocked at the fact that chess.com has ads -- with a wayyy too small percentage of people actually paying to use this site, how else is he going to make money?  This kind of junk always gets my panties in a bunch; good God, what are people expecting?

I'm serious - anyone know if you can turn the ads back on?  Erik, are you reading this ...

I dont have ads and i'm not a premium member... if you were more technologically savy you wouldnt have such trivial problems.

Erik - Well - I'd never heard of Chess Master before I joined chess.com - or that white thing that allows you to do analysis (can't remember the name).  I haven't bought either of them but I have no other way of finding out what chess items might be worth buying.  I'm not interested enough to do any active research :-)

Would just be nice to turn it off & on occasionally I guess.

... but please don't waste time on it when there's lots of other more worthwhile things to do !

Dude wants to pay and get ads - maybe there are more like him? Why not have a little tick box in the profiles of paying members?

I would definitely second that idea if I knew that Erik et al. would get more money from the advertisers for it.

Coe
Yeah, and the reasons why he wants the ads are legitimate. I mean where else would a new chess player discover sources for chess books, courses, sets, etc.?

Great isn't it.

if i could find enough chess companies to advertise, then i wouldn't have non-chess ads showing. but i can't :)
