a lot of people blame consoles for taking people away from chess, and numbing peoples brains ,well i am a console nut and now have a 360, its magic! i`ve played consoles since the spectrum,if you remember that !

but my first love (games wise) was chess and here i am 360 asleep and im playin chess. you cant beat chess against a fellow human(yes i am !)

i`ll play consoles till i die , but i`ll be playing chess longer !

I agree with your point.  While I never owned a console, I have been a PC gamer for a long time and never found those games to erode my interesting in chess.  Quite the contrary, I have found my interest in chess to be heightened as games become increasily arduous and, in some cases, buggy.  There is an elegance to chess unmatched by any other computer game.

Furthermore, I think PC and consoles will actually draw more people in the game.  If it wasn't for Chessmaster 2000, I probably would never have discovered chess.  I think as we see more chess programs for consoles, and as the footprint of chess becomes ever larger on the internet, more and more kids will discover the game and begin to play it.  Heck, we are living through a chess renissance right now due to the many great online chess sites (such as this one).  I think your POV will win out in the end.
