CDawgVA is NOT 900 ELO
I hadn't played this one before, so gave it a go this morning. I haven't played the King's Gambit in awhile, so thought I would give it try again. I built up a sizable advantage, threw it away when I got careless, but recovered in the end. I wouldn't place this one higher than Antonio, but it is better than Nelson (but I think Nelson is the most over-rated, it's just a bit tricky until you get the hang of defending against his Queen).
this bot knows the ruy lopez mainline and other opening theory, wtf
with 900 you dont even know the spanish or any other beyond 3 moves max. probably not even the name for it. at that lvl you basically just learned or are learning to not checkmate yourself anymore.
so yeah, obviously not 900.
feels like around "Antonio"/1500 bot. who also knows/plays some mainlines.
I thought I was going crazy, I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed this. I’ve been able to defeat ~1200 bots fairly consistently with some practice (fairly new to chess), but somehow CDawgVA escapes me. So far I’ve lost every game I’ve played against it, so I fired up xQc, which I hadn’t played yet, and had no problems with it. I’m puzzled.
once I played random bots one after another without looking there rating and max I could beat was a 1500 easily. I know I was just throwing moves at it but I thought eventually he will make few blunders but he didn't. he is better than 1500.
I've beat all the bots up to around 2100 and this one definitely feels very strong for its elo. Usually I can do bots under 1200 or so just by making moves without thinking and they inevitably hang a bunch of pieces and miss most of my hung pieces. But this "strategy" loses to this bot all of the time. I had to treat it like a game with a 1500 or so bot before I could win.
I knew I wasn't crazy at all hahahaha.
I've defeated 1200-1300 bots. But this bot has destroyed me once and again.
Still broken. This is not a 900. I've beaten 1500 plus bots. This one is more difficult than those. I win 1 out of 10 times. I don't know any openings, don't study, but this 900 is way way way too difficult.
Interesting fact, if you pick CDawgVA and look at the bottom Engine slider you will see that it jumps to 1200. This slider is mostly consistent with rest of bots but sometimes is off by 100 Elo.
For proof just make a forum saying bots are underrated, and see how many comments you can get

Not really. It's the opposite: humans are underrated here. And some bots like CDawgVA are underrated here too on purpose. Engine slider proves that.
Reading this forum made me think this bot was mittens 2.0 or something. It really isn't that strong. He played some awful moves like Kd8. I didn't play that well either, but still won. You could tell he was programmed to play moves that lose centipawns. Maybe a bit stronger than his elo, though. Like 1200ish? game link
bots are a waste of time anyway. play against humans!
I thought I would try this bot again, and it is stronger than I would expect based upon the other bots. However, it's still not all that good. The difference, I think, is that most bots when geared to lower levels seem to just make bizarre randomly bad moves, while this one is more of what I would want to see - doesn't do the "here take this piece, and now take this one too" type thing, but rather, it just doesn't spot the best move, or the best idea. Then again, I too suffer from "board blindness", as a completely missed the fact I could just take his rook at one point. ooops! Anyway, this one is beatable, but you have to beat it, it won't just give it away.

He blundered his queen, then immediately allowed me to win a rook. Weak play

Your own game said he plays like a 1500 ELO. You are an almost 2000 ELO, so it's easy for you. But for someone with a score between 700-800 as me, that has beaten 1200-1300 bots, this bot is specially strong.

Don't trust game review score, because here it is affected by rating of players not only by their play. There's some weird logic, something like: "You both rated high - oh, good game, high Elo score. You low-Elo played against high-Elo? Well played, we will awardyou with moderately high score. You both low-Elo players, played exceptionally well? Nah, not giving you high-Elo score, you don't deserve it. Yet." (You can confirm that by uploading PGN games with edited Elo entries back to analysis/review).
Anyway Elo performance score in fact could be measured after just one game but even without those manipulations it cannot alone define your strength or strength of the bot.
By the way, I am 200-rated Blitz player and I was able to beat CDawgVA today. No takebacks, no hints, a fair match.
