Calculation ratings

Sort:
phobius

I had a rating of 1601 when I defeated another player with 1732, and I got 9 points, arriving at 1610. Some games later I had a rating of 1592 and lose with an opponent with 1572, but in this case my opponent won 21 points!! and I lose 15!!. Don't you think it seems an unbalanced situation?? (All players involved had played more than 100 games)

How are the new ratings calculated?

Great question!  I would like to know that myself.

is the rating adjustment based on the rating that exist at the time the game starts?

I think it is. At the begining there's a rating for each player and then they are modified depending on the value of each one and how reliable are the ratings involved. I mean, if a player has played few games his/her rating is less reliable and the calculations for the new ratings may seem weird, but in the case I posted all players had more than 100 games played...

it all has to do with each player's Glicko RD.
