As far as I know, an addiction is something that is harmful, hurts yourself and/or others, damages relationships,etc. It's difficult for me to see how playing chess could be an addiction unless someone does nothing else.
hmmm lets look at a few definitions from dictionary.com
Addiction:
-Compulsive physiological and psychological need for a habit-forming substance
-The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something.
- Habitual psychological and physiological dependence on a substance or practice beyond one's voluntary control.
Based on these I'm not sure if its an addiction, though many people play like addicts. I know what you mean though, its so hard to not play for a long time.
I was told that i was addicted to chess. I told him it was an intellectual thing. What do you guys think?
