i hate it when i get beat & the opposing player doesn't tell me when or why i lost.

You can always post the game in the Game Analysis forum. I'm sure plenty of people will lend a hand on helping find when and why you lost.

I would feel uncomfortable with an opponent reviewing my loss.

I would offer this information if and only if it was specifically requested.

i learned to play a long time ago; until fairly recently there was no such thing as a GA forum.

I am not sure why you would get upset with someone for not telling you why you lost unless you asked for their advice and they refused. I would gladly offer any advice to my opponent after a game if he asked, but to just assume he wants to know why he lost and pointing it out to him can cause some ill feelings if he thinks you are just being a jerk.

if you ask for game analysis im sure lots of people would step up and co-operate but their not obliged to do this and it shouldnt be held against them if they dont want to. if you go back and study the game move by move it shouldnt be too difficult to see where things went wrong

Did you ask them to help you?

yes, which why i'm better then i used to be. i guess my real complaint is watching someone else lose, and the winner does nothing but laugh/

yes, & i'm better for it; my peeve concerns winners who simply gloat, & then  challenge u to another game- i.e., it's all about demonstrating superiority & has nothing to do w/developing better opponents,

u review it anyway, i assume. I feel uncomfortable losing also, but i want to know why and WHEN the crucial error occured.

That's not what you said at first-say what you mean.  I have not encountered anyone on this site who has gloated afterward and I believe I have upward of forty losses.

it's only my opinion, but acting like a jerk actually makes ur opponents better; they'll even read books  so they  can give u ur due

what about when you are playing online and while you play you talk to your opponent, and then if he makes a nice move such as a fork it goes from a light conversation to him gloating about it.  1) it is in bad taste 2)it ruins the conversation, and 3) you probably won't play them anymore. Keep the in-game conversation fun and play nice, people!!

I think it depends. If they're just being jokey that cool of course. I played a game on here and my opponent messaged me "RESIGN". I didn't appreciate that. I'll even message people a one word comment if they make a good move, or if they miss something I'll say "I would've been in a bad position if ....". Because I figure it's a critique, but delivered in nice packaging.

During a game on another site acouple of months ago while I carelessly gave up a piece and followed with a comment that maybe I should have gone to bed instead of playing that game.  Really just laughing at myself.  The comment back was, "well go to bed loser".  I had never played this person and no prior acquaintance.  I was stunned but became resolute!  Won by checkmate < 10 moves later and left without another comment from either.  Perhaps my most gratifying win.  Work harder! Study, practice, ask for help, whatever....Your game is your responsibility.

yeah I know what you're saying. I was playing someone who forked me and I just said, "nice move".  He somehow took that the wrong way, and started "yelling" at me. I don't have a problem with talking about the game, it's when people say things like "great move moron" that are unnessecary but make a win sooo much better  :-P
