Why not start 960 vote games?

Hi all,

I was just wondering, wouldn't it be nice to start some 960 vote games? The vote games here are nice but most of the time we end up playing known openings and it's very hard to get away from the book and opening explorer, which makes the whole thing a little boring sometimes. With 960, we would have a 100% group thinking from the start and I believe it would make it even much more interesting.

That might be interesting.  I haven't played 960 but vote games would be a good way for 960 newbies to get a feel for the game.

We could even start vote games with fixed positions, openings less played. F.e. Kings Gambit, Danish gambit, Anderssens opening etc.

I think this is a great idea. I've never played 960 before and would welcome the opportunity to learn in this type of format.

I discovered 960 thanks to chess.com and fell in love with the concept. So I'd really love to get involved with opening strategies other than let us drive from book openings and already played games for half the game. In chess the opening is when everything is challenged most because there are so many possibilities, in which you have to combine short term tactic (from the 960 games I played so far it is very often that there are some vulnerable areas in the initial setup that need to be defended from frontal attacks whereas the classic setup is pretty well defended) with long term strategy (focusing too much on short term tactics, both in attack and defense, lead to very awkard positions later in the game), which makes it even more interesting. I believe that 1 day of discussion on a move in 960 openings might be really very short and very very challenging! I know that some groups are trying to lay some 960 opening theories using computers, but using our minds we might collaborately discover other things.
