It would even be more 960 to have a new random board with each opponent! This would put an end to the tactical advantage you can take by studying your opponents trough their other games of the same round.
Tornament Boards should be Different in each round !
Agreed, Atos. In Round Robin tnmts here, both games are played simultaneously, which is almost ideal. (Except when one player tries to mirror the other exactly.)
This could be avoided if they staggered the start of the 2 games.... let game A get to move 10 ( pick a number ) before starting game B. I think this would be good as I have had players try to just copy my moves before too.... its quite annoying.
I think everyone playin the same board in the same round is good n fair, and actually I really like looking at how each player does his opening with that board, but then when there's a new round, i definately don't want the same one again. I've contacted chess.com to encourage them to rethink this, if you are in support of this too, then please contact them and let them know.
The only reason I can imagine for why chess960 tournaments are played all the way with always the same starting position is that when introducing these tournaments here on chess.com, it was slightly easier to implement because it was just the same as the already existing theme tournaments with a given opening as starting position.
However, as has been said here lots of times already, playing an entire tournament with the same starting position is completely contrary to the spirit of chess960.
I strongly recommend that chess.com changes these chess960 tournaments so that there is a new starting position for each game, or a new starting position for each opponent. Whatever is easier to implement in programming.
Do not let "programming effort required" be a reason not to introduce this necessary change! I think that the "benefit vs effort required" ratio for this change is huge!
Chess960 is colourful, it's rich in variety.
Please do bring colour and variety to chess960 tournaments here!
That's it, we basically playing a 'theme' opening tournament, chess.com is prettysophisticated website with huge facilities and ATTENTION TO DETAIL, i'M SURE THEY COULD REMEDY THIS QUITE EASILy (oops ) it's just a matter of the right guys either seeing 'it' or hearing us.
agree, it makes sense to have the same board setup for both games against the same player (because some positions favor white more than others) but not for the whole tournament. tbh, this puts me off from playing chess960 tournaments on this site completely.
I've been enjoying playing in 960 tounaments but am totally shocked to see that the SAME board is served up AGAIN, in the next round of a tournament. Surely it would be more 960 to have a new board at each new round ??
Totally agree. Add my vote to switching positions in each round, please.
