Hi everyone,

Do you know why is there so much difference betwen 960 and standard ches rating on chess.com ? It s really difficult to win 13xx players (they are generally rated 1800 or more). Is it due to the number of players ?

I like this kind of games more and more so, I would like to be able to see my progress.

chess 960 is a place to forget opennings so many players find it difficult

I think on average, people who play chess960 are stronger than people who play regular chess on this site.

of course, casual chess in comparison to 960 is like free riding compared to having blinders on your eyes. so, correlation between standard and 960 ratings of a person may be used like an indicator of "extent of conventionality of his intellection", sth like that

question...I just recently started playing again (used to play as a pre/teen) and have played against an online computer (supposed rating 1600) and a computer chess game (supposed rating 2500) both computers went wacko at 23 moves...the 1600 rated machine was LOSING.  Are the cheap computer games maxed out at 23 moves?  Just curious!  thanks.

There are less players playing 960, so in general, the rating pool is smaller, and all players are closer together than they are in regular.  Speaking in a strictly graphical sense, since it is a bell curve, there is not enough room under the curve at the top end for a larger number to fit there.

You can get a better idea of the person's strength by checking what percentile they fall into.  i.e., currently, someone who is rated 1877 or better at 960 is in the top 1% of all 960 players.
