Let's invent some very weird pieces

THE ROYAL PAGE. At the beginning of the game, he is placed in the place of the queen on the field d1, that is, next to the king. Moves and captures like a king and like a knight. If, after taking a knight on the move, a pawn of his own color stands from him, he can knight her and she becomes a knight. But he can apply this technique only 2 times per batch.

Just give it up, Erik (@EzraChan10 aka @Ace569er). I (and a few others?) already know it's you.

Pegasus:  moves any even number of squares orthogonally in one direction and then half of that number of squares perpendicularly, can jump.  Examples: 2 & 1 (like a knight), 4 & 2, 6 & 3, 8 & 4, 10 & 5 etc.  There can only be the knight proportion (2 to 1), no camel (3 to 1) or giraffe (3 & 2), and the3 longer part of the L trajectory can only be an even number.

Inferno: moves like a queen, cannot capture by replacement, BUT!  wherever it lands, all the enemy pieces on the adjacent squares are captured.

Slowferno: similar to inferno but can only move 1 square at a time like king.

The atomic queen - queen that can captrure both normally and as an inferno.

The atomic king - king that can capute both normally and as an inferno, moves like regular king.  Now there's a stronger monarch!

The SOB:

Every 7 moves this piece lands on a random square and captures any the piece that might be there.

Son of an itch?  And how does it move?

Mr_Check58

And now some xmas pieces:

Santa - moves like an amazon, cannot capture  BUT when it lands on a square where one of your piece got captured, that piece is back on the board! However, if the king gets checkmated, Santa can't save him.

Reindeer - slides 1 square in any direction, leaps 2 squares orthogonally and diagonally or as a knight.  This guy can capture, and when it captures an enemy piece, all the victims of that piece (if there are any) are back on the board!

The flying pie! I dont know what it would do, but I like the name.

A piece that can capture every piece on the same file, rank, or diagonal.

E.g. The piece capture the Queen. Now the piece can capture every piece on the same file, rank, and diagonal without moving.

The maze pawn - a pawn designed for variants with obstacles on the board such as single blocked squares or labyrinths.  It and move (and capture) 1 square straight forward, jump (and capture) 2 squares forward, so if there's a labyrinth wall in the way, the pawn can hop right over it. Also it can move 1 square left or right (without capturing) so it's easier to navigate the maze, and it can also capture 1 square diagonally forward just like a regular pawn. The maze pawns are in the front row in this image.

I've always liked the idea of the original 'ferz,' -a chancellor, instead of the modern queen, with it also being the only promotion option. Moves and takes one square only on diagonals in any direction. Companion rules I'd suggest would be no castling, and pawn only moving one square initially, also eliminating en passant.

Never tried it, but you could probably play it meaningfully on a modern board, and get a 'dark ages' vibe to the game.

'Pawn Star.' at the beginning of the game each player selects one of their pawns and positions it anywhere on the opponent's side of the board, except for the square vacated by the opponent's pawn star, with white placing the pawn first, and move order then proceeding as usual.playhand.png

the "Night," same function as the horse but without the k

Meowed. If it captures a piece, the piece becomes a cat and wrecks havoc on the board

Biman08

The Ladybird

It can 'jump' two squares frontwards and two squares backwards. And it can even jump one square diagonally
