It seems weak. How are you going to get two rangers threatening a piece. The other problem with it is that its power only applies to one other piece.

Sure it is weak

I hope to make the RON stronger however, and useful generally as a piece combo

I think I am in compliance with this request by furnishing a link to the rules of the game designed by Ed Trice with input from a few others, myself included. It's not my "beloved variant." My favorite variant is Janus Chess where I routinely mow down the opposition.

Perhaps explain it?

otherwise your posts are no better than “it shoots lasers can shield and can move”

RON

can move like a queen, but only capture pieces which 2 rangers (three for a dwarf) are attacking. If an enemy piece has one RON adjacent to them, then they “drop brawl” them - a state where they lose all abilities but moveset (nazgul are immune). In addition, any Ranger with a RON orthogonally adjacent is capturable as a dwarf is, whereby upon capturing, BOTH rangers are captured.

There's an 84 page document with diagrams and examples and plenty of explanations from actual game play. https://gothicchess.info/Stargate.pdf

Thanks for mentioning your Stargate variant. It's clear now, we don't need more references to your variant then we now have already seen. Going forward, you can use this thread to actually invent new weird pieces.

ChesswithGautham
Bulldozer knocks over your opponents king. It can also knock over other pieces
ArchbishopCheckmate

Again, the "weird pieces" are explained in the document.  If you actually read it, you would see. I guess this is beyond your comprehension, so let me explain it this way:

I invented a new piece

It's called the PIDH, (pronounced PID-ech) which stands for PDF Idiot Download Helper. It shows people links to interesting chess variant pieces if they are too dumb to download them for themselves.

greypenguin

the vigilante: moves like a knight, captures like a king. If anything moves past a square around it, the piece is captured. If captured was too much, one could propose a variant of the piece, which will simply block the piece instead and the piece ends up at the edge of the vigilantes 1 square radius

Say the knight is a vigilante

Hi Mr Trice,

Thanks for using Board Painter. It is appreciated when you borrow the work of others to at least provide a link of the original work.

Best regards Mr Trice

the royal of all: it cannot be captured, but it can capture opponents pieces. has the ability to move like the queen and knight. However, it can be captured by the king if the king no other way to get out of check if it will not be in check. there is 1 royal of all for each side.

ROI (Ranger of Ithilien)

all pieces diagonally orthogonally adjacent are immune to all effects but capture or check. It moves like a king but captures/threatens (with ROG/RON capture rules) as a knight. It can also "fortify" itself, whereupon it cannot capture (but can still aid another ranger in capturing) but can only be captured with two pieces attacking it ( as with the dwarf) If there is a ROG orthogonally adjacent to it and it moves orthogonally the ROG can move with it, as long as it does not involve the capturing of a piece/moving through a barrier.

The ROG can also now promote to a RON/ROI.

ZhenyaChaynikov

KILLER
Moves like a queen, but only on 1, 2 or 3 squares. Does not jump over pieces. Knocks down pieces on approach-destroys an enemy piece by sneaking up on it from behind.

THE CREEPY KNIGHT
Makes two knight moves at a time, not necessarily in the same direction. He cannot capture a piece from the knight's first move, only from the second.

Idiot. A neutral piece that does not belong to any army. Neither side can capture him. It is placed in the middle of the board and always moves 1 square towards the last piece that was moved (when possible). It doesn't do anything - it just hinders (or maybe blocks the attack from time to time).

jdh1

Assassin

Moves like a guard. Cannot be captured immediately after capturing an enemy piece

ZhenyaChaynikov

Hooligan. Moves and captures like a rook, but it can capture only pawns.

A SHEEP moves like a knight from a white square and like a rook from a black square. That is, being on a white square, a sheep can make its next move only with a knight, and on a black one-only with a rook.

Batman is a piece that can move one square up, left, or diagonally to the right and up in one move. He can also jump over one or two squares, but only if neither his own nor other people's pieces stand in his way.

RHINOCEROS
Moves one or two squares vertically or horizontally, does not jump over the pieces. Can kill two pieces of the opponent in one move, if they stand in his way.

The GOAT -

- moves like a Rook, but can "head-butt" enemy pieces and push them back a square. If it catches them already on the edge of the board, it knocks them off the board instead.

Let's make a blue-shell-piece that only hurts the player whose position is betterhappy.png

If your position is better than your opponents then their and your blue-shell will hurt youwink.png

The_turtlepro

Lets make a Nookop. It is a rook, bishop, and knight all put into one piece.
