Hi there. I have been playing chess for many years and i decided i would use the board for a piece of film i was making....on the board however all the white pieces are on white squares on one side of the board interspersed with the black pieces which are on black squares, with the exception of the queen which goes on its own colour with her king by her side naturally. this positioning is mirrored on the other side of the board with all blacks white square pieces and whites black square pieces in opposition. the object of the game is to play from both sides at once with your chosen colour. Mate and check are as in traditional chess. some immediate moves present themselves, since captures are possible on the first move. however, the captures are balanced and so if for instance the white rook captured the black knight to its left, this could immediately be repeated by black on the same side or across the board. What i was wondering was is this a recognised variant or is this just a lucky find? Upon a cursory examination it appear to have a lot of play in the game and the knight/castle mutally assured destruction is an interesting tension for an opening, i welcome any comment! :)
another interesting tension in the game is that if a pawn want to move to safetyaway from its rank it has to move the optional two squares or it faces immediate capture.
