Has chess 960 become a real part of real chess like blitz and regular chess.

EternalChess

I dont believe so,

i think it is just used for fun purposes..

tbh i hope it doesnt become popular.

Why not?

DrawMaster

Seriously, I had this thought yesterday:

"Why not give up completely on traditional chess? You would never waste another $20 on some nearly useless openings manual. Or waste another moment trying to remember lines. Or waste another thread post ruminating on the merits of the QGD or the Ruy. Or ..."

Well, the list goes on.

Then, I realized that I'd be on my very own from the first move. And that thought was decidedly scary.Surprised

You would never waste another $20 on some nearly useless openings manual.

Wait until they start writing openings manuals on 960 positions!

I think people will have different definitions of "real." To me, Blitz is not "real" chess. It may be fun (I wouldn't know from personal experience), but the clock is too much of a factor. The depth of calculation which gives rise to the "art" in chess is impossible for most players. Chess 960 may become more and more popular, but I'll stick with "classical" chess.

960 is as real as it gets, baby.

How good are you without your book?

I have started to really enjoy Chess960. I think it places a higher premium on both endgame skills as well as tactics since position familiarity is lower than in regular chess.

960 vote chess is good fun, I love the sometimes heated discussions about "stick to normal principles" vs " yeah, but the dynamics here are different"...

AnthonyCG you raise an interesting point regarding pro chess.

I agree. It's much better than proper chess. : )

The biggest significant difference between standard chess and Fischer Random is the ability to memorize opening lines - such memorization is essentially a requirement for standard chess, but practically infeasable for FR.

So if you're a fan of memorization, I can see why you'd like standard chess more.

Can any one tell me what is this chess 960 ? I checked all the chess.com for a page that explain how this chess 960 works rules etc ... but I didn't find it, probably it was under my nose and missed, if any one knows please let me know thanks. King, lucky you! There is a thread in this very forum full of mind-blowingly good information about chess 960!

What are the odds of that?! Simply incredible!

No, I agree and I clarify the ambiguous statement.

Right now, I'd say chess 960 has not become a real part of chess. That said, I would like to see more 960 games played by top players.
