Thats neat. never heard of it, but it looks interesting. Kindof like a compromise between normal chess and Chess960.
Fischer Placement Chess!!!
Some Chess clocks nowadays generate random Chess960 positions.
A way to do it by hand is to write the numbers 1-8 on the bottom of the white Pawns. The black player then puts the Pawns on the board in such a way that the white player cannot see what is written on the bottom. The white player then sets up his Pawns on the second rank. Then you look at the bottom of each Pawn to decide what piece should be put behind it. 1 means a Bishop. The other Bishop goes behind the Pawn with the lowest number on the opposite color (say this happens to be 4). Then from low to high you put down Q (i.e. at 2) and 2 Knights (3 and 5). The remining 3 open positions (6,7,8) will be filled by K (center) and R (wings).
That procedure will generate each Chess960 position with equal probbility.
It is possible to generate 25 of the Chess960 (Fischer Random Chess) positions manually, thus allowing control to the players. It is now possible to play this variant online. Please have a look:
