Šitiča (Goikian Chess)

Sort:
TheChessInfinity

Hello there. A new chess variant is waiting for you, and it's called Šitiča. It was invented in Medieval Goiky in 1334. It was a trade route between the Early Dens and Persians.

The 12 pieces are called (from up to down): Soldier, War Engine, Artillery, Shield, Trident, Chariot, Cavalry, Elephant, Archer, Advisor, King and Vizier.

Here is how each piece moves:

Soldier: Moves forward one step and captures diagonally. Can't move two steps on first time moving and can't en passant.

War Engine: Move 1-2 steps and can jump over pieces.

Artillery: Only moves 1 step diagonally, horizontally and vertically but can capture enemy pieces 5 squares vertically, horizontally and diagonally away from it, but won't capture through pieces. And also, fun fact: artillery was invented in the 14th century!

Shield: Here is the complex part. The shield can move 2 steps vertically, horizontally and diagonally and can even move like a knight in regular chess! It protects squares where it can move to, meaning that enemy pieces will die coming into its range (except tridents)! The shield won't go to the dead piece's place when the enemy piece died through its protective range and not normal capturing.  Enemy pieces do not die when the shield's defense line reaches them. Here's an example.

Do you think that the king is in check? Totally no!

Trident: These move 3 steps of any direction. They are the only thing that could destroy shields. They get destroyed when they capture enemy shields.

Chariot: regular chess rook

Cavalry: regular chess knight

Elephant: Moves 1-2 steps diagonally. Can also jump over pieces.

Archer: These move 1-3 steps of any direction, but can shoot pieces in any direction, no matter how far.

Advisor: Also called the "ferz", moves 1 step diagonally.

King: Moves like a regular chess king, but can't castle.

Vizier: Moves 1 step vertically and horizontally.

Tips:

When a soldier reaches the 10th rank, it becomes an advisor.

Is this a real historic game (and if so, what is your source), or a game in a virtual fantasy universe?
