engines for variants

will engine analysis ever be available for variants on chess.com? i feel like it could really help people better enjoy variants like chaturanga. btw, does an engine that can handle customized rules even exist? for example i'd really like an engine to analyze chaturanga (shatranj) matches. thanks in advancehappy.png

thats pretty impossible

pure stockfish might cuz it has less nural but prob not nnue maybe a relearn nue but im not sure its hard

ALSO for variants like bughouse and crazy house its not very possible, especially for bughouse, 2 people is kinda u know, cuz the bots have to choose to stall or not or etc and place, chaturanga could be possible and actually but they would need the stockfish company to stop working on stockfish 14 tempowarily and it takes a lot of money

there is no engine that can handle it but u need to relearn or reprogram

u need new servers too so its super costly

There is a derivative of Stockfish called 'Fairy-Stockfish', which can play many of these variants. (Certainly Shatranj and Crazyhouse.)

I’m actually trying to build one right now, it’s pretty hard, as you can’t have one for all variants. So I’m starting with my favorite variant chataraji

Lichess has an analysis for some variants: https://lichess.org/analysis

No chaturanga though.

You can play Ancient Chess (Shatranj) against a bot in this site:

https://mi-g.github.io/jocly/examples/browser/control.html?game=shatranj-chess

Actually if you set it as 'Self v Self' then switch to 'Self v Computer' you could analyze a specific position. No idea how accurate can be when you set the computer as 'Strong', never tried.

It is not that strong.

Ah yes, it's my old post, meanwhile I have discovered Shamax which is free and quite good. Someone already mentioned that Fairy-Stockfish also includes Shatranj, not sure how-if can be downloaded.

Pretty sure lichess's engine can analyze games from any of the variants on there.

Usually mate in 1 is no challenge for an engine. I wonder how far we can push this for variant engines.

Below diagram if white to move mate in 1, if black to move also mate in 1
