About 50 years ago I played a 5 x 6 variant that we called quick chess. It's more in line with my limited skill level. I would love to be able to play on Chess.com. The rules we played by:
1. One each R, N, B, Q, K, placed at random, making 120 possible starting positions. 2. No double pawn move, therefore no en passant capture. 3. No castling. 4. Pawns only promote to an already captured piece.
