Why do people abandon games?

Why do people abandon games? The reason why this question arose is because, according to the chess.com insight feature, 7.9% of the games I won were because the opponent abandoned the game.

사람들이 게임을 포기하는 이유는 무엇인가요? 이 질문이 제기된 이유는 chess.com 인사이트 기능에 따르면 제가 이긴 게임의 7.9%가 상대방이 게임을 포기했기 때문이라고 합니다.

This forum is an English forum, so I don't think there's any reason to translate it into Korean.

Some people abandon games, and they are thinking 'I can't win this game, but I can play other game and I can win that game.'

I think this is why people abandon game.

abandoning != resigning

I think that it *can* happen due to a poor internet connection, but in my experience it always seems to happen right after they blunder a piece or wind up in an otherwise difficult position. I imagine it's so they can tell themselves that they didn't *really* lose or they want to deprive the victor the satisfaction of a proper resignation / checkmate.
A win is a win though and the fact that some of your opponents are childish shouldn't sour your victories!

this explanation is the best and why sometimes just sit there and watch the clock run out -- cause iam mad at myself for blundering and like to talk till the time runs calming down with the opponent---- when they speak english that is which happens to my surprise quite often since i lose 99.9 % of the time iam at 100 all the time so i get to calm down quite a bit with good people mostly that i talk to
