It's hard to say who the best is because it spans over hundreds of years. If Morphy had the internet, and all current knowledge of chess, what would that do to current rankings. I think a lot about who would be on the MT Rushmore of chess.

I think he's the best player that's ever played chess

Fischer, for all his negative impulses later in life, may be the most influential player ever. His championship match vs Spassky really caused a sensation in the US. Suddenly, millions of people who had no interest in chess began to follow the game. Some of them are probably still playing today.

Kasparov 2874
Fischer 2867
Capablanca 2857

yeah but he plays more consistently and Kasparov's peak was 2851 and Fischer was like 2881 peak and capablanca is peaks is like 2730 but I know it is a measurement but it isn't 100% accurate so

Define "ever", really.

Looking at whats currently happening in regards to 8 to 12 year olds, I'm under the impression the next generation may easily break the 2900 barrier that even Carlsen couldnt crack.

If rating peak is adjusted for computer steroid use.. No 1. Fischer. Joint 2nd. Kasparov and Magnus.

This shouldn't even be a question. The dude has won 17 world championships. 5 Classical, 6 rapid and 6 blitz and he reached the highest rating of all time with at some points a difference of more than 60 points with the second highest player. No one will ever be as great as him.
He's just the GOAT

Magnus 23.5 Alireza 7.5 in the SCC final

This is just the latest trophy for Magnus against a field of the best players in the world. If we define an elite tournament as one in which at least four of the top ten players in the world at the time compete, Magnus has surpassed Karpov in winning more elite tournaments than anyone in history.

He continues to dominate the next generation of players.

and in any given tournament, involving Magnus, Magnus is favored over the entire field.
