If you can challenge any titled player (living or dead) in a chess match, who would it be?

I would want to challenge either Magnus Carlsen, Mikhail Tal, Gothamchess or Hikaru.

ChimpCh

Vishwanathan Anand, Magnus Carlsen, GothamChess, and Paul Morphy

Armatise

Oh, Paul Morphy is a good one.

ChimpCh

In my opinion, the title of a player is not as important as what the player has done for the game. Gotham has popularized the game so much, riding the wave of popularity during 2020 onwards. I believe he is as worthy as any top player

Pekin_duck123

GothamChess even though I suck at chess.

Armatise

@chesssblackbelt, I bet most people are going to pick either Hikaru, Magnus Carlsen, or Gothamchess because they're too popular.

ZenChess210

If i was good enough, Magnus or Hikaru

So why not play the actress from queen's gambit then? She's done more for chess popularity than Gotham has

Gothamchess did a video about The Queen's Gambit, I think.

Armatise

@chesssblackbelt Don't forget about Capablanca, Morphy, and Bobby Fischer. They influenced chess the most during the 19th century.

Armatise

Capablanca was a Cuban chess master who was renowned for his brilliant endgame play.

Also @chesssblackbelt, the Queen Gambit is an interesting drama series. But you should read this:

Armatise

Read this then:

Everyone knows he's a Cuban chess master, not an American chess master. You are correct that Paul Morphy and Bobby Fisher are American chess masters.

Armatise

@chesssblackbelt, you are somewhat correct. In the 20th century, that miniseries made chess more popular. It did become so popular, that chess players like Gothamchess, Hikaru, and Magnus Carlsen began analysing The Queen's Gambit. It did not influence chess, it just made it more popular in the modern era.

Also, Cuba has its own flag and is its own country. Even if it were part of North America, that a continent, not a country. Americans are from the United States, and Cuba is not part of the United States. Therefore, it is its own country.

Cuba is not American. Cuba is a island not far from The United States. Cuba has a communist dictator.

Armatise

Yes, @thee_black_knight is correct. Its geography is also different as well, especially its government. Concluding that Jose Raul Capablanca is a Cuban Grandmaster, not an American Grandmaster like Bobby Fischer and Paul Morphy.

Armatise

... They're separate continents with different countries and ethnicities. This is turning into geography class now.

Armatise

...

Armatise

The US is considered American.

Armatise

South American is consider South American.
