Heath Ledger would often play chess in New York Washington Square Park. In an MTV.com interview he played chess ever since he was a kid and would play at least one game a day. He would even trash talk during the chess games with his friends. Ledger was even an Australian Junior Chess Champion as a youth. His dad said "My beautiful boy, so loving, so talented, so independent, so caring, so young ... no more chess games mate ... this is it, couldn't beat you anyway!"

Heath Ledger will be missed by many for his amazing talents as an actor and an amateur chess player.

It's interesting to see how your perception of relatively well-known people can change.  I never would have guessed that Ledger or Pitt played chess.

I was sorry to hear of the recent passing of the multi-talented soul of Heath Ledger. He loved chess and his strength was formidable and growing. As an actor, he was polished. He was entertaining and at times captivating. My personal favorite was his work in "A Knight's Tale" (2001)
Tagline:

From peasant to knight; one man can change his stars

Plot Outline:

After his master dies, a peasant squire, fueled by his desire for food and glory, creates a new identity for himself as a knight.

Health Ledger, I celebrate your life.

" A Knight's Tale " one of Heath ledger's many movies was also my favorite. I predicted him to become a big star and he did.

Thanks for posting that, I never would have known either.

While on the subject and having also lost a loved one to accidental overdose; I hope that we can all learn something from his death.  Please, if you see someone getting too dependent on multiple medications, intervene while something can be done.  This should be a lesson that it can happen to anyone.  This wasn't just another example of Hollywood excess, it is more common than you'd imagine.

OK, stepping down off soapbox, carry on.
