Karpov! Was and is the greatest Mac Daddy of them all!

WC from the mid 70s to the mid 80s. The No#2 man in the 90s early 2000s (with only 4 games separating him and Kasparov in WC match play! Kasparov retained the title by drawing the one of them.

Get's a second wind late in his carrier ... goes on the winning for a year that had a 2830elo performance Wins the FIDE WC again (when Kasparov vacates the title... I put an *** beside this WC, due to Kasparov took a lot of really good players with him to form the PCA. still was very cool if you are a Karpov fan)
