Chess Bullying

I've always wandered what  players talk in the chat section, other than saying "Congrats" or "good game" etc

Today I saw it can be used as an intimidation weapon... but in a 15/10 tournament made just for fun? Someone has no life or just had too many drinks

Your answer made my day, better than the chat with the fellow above..

Do people really use engines in a tournament while playing from their phone?

Don't really know what "sandbagging" means, but I do know that he played like a total beginner.

Please explain the "definitely violating" part again , what rules did I break?!?!

^There are sore winners to lol 😂😂😂 I got insulted after I played someone for 1 hour even though he won. He was in a hurry to leave and I didn't accept is draw. wish I did lol

"sandbagging" means that you are playing below your ability so that you would classified to compete against less capable players than you ought to be.

Think of running a race while 'carrying a bag of sand' to determine which group you will compete against.  Your time would be slower than normal because you were carrying a bag of sand.

When the competition starts, you drop the bag of sand, run normally, and would likely win easily.

Hence 'sandbagging'

"Quit sandbagging" = 'play to your potential'

There are lots of stories behind the expression - most of them are dumb.

All forms of bullying are not nice.

If someone calls you a cheater it is a compliment usually, because the player is mad that he lost.

There are players who can’t deal with a loss. In their minds it’s always somebody else’s fault. You could block the chat and I always report the player. Had several cases where chess.com took action.

I wish I'd play a few more 'sandbaggers', sounds like an easy win. That's one of the interesting parts of chess is the angry player. I find, a lot of times the angry player, is someone that starts fast, like he knows all the moves, kind of impatient, then slowly falls apart, getting angry and you can almost sense that he's making 'angry' moves.
