Bots and Cheating

I'm starting to think that chess.com uses bots to make the user pool seem bigger. I was playing an Indian guy today, his account was opened in 2020 and in four years he only played 10 games. He somehow manages to pull a great attack out of nowhere despite playing the most offbeat opening. his rating when playing with me was 1386 and now he is 1412... he suddenly gained 26 points? he clearly is a spam, a cheater or a bot used by chess.com itself. And let's not forget how many cheaters and stallers go unpunished. the only thing that makes this app appealing is the graphics. it's a total crap otherwise.

The site does not use bots in the player pools.

As to the rating increase of your opponent, the site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. Large gaps in play or few games cause an increase in that RD value which causes larger rating changes after games and as more games are played that decrease, as will the magnitude of rating changes.

As to your other point, the vast majority of players are playing fairly.

Ignorance of the rating system and losing a chess game aren’t reasons to believe your wild conspiracy theory. Play on, and may the odds swing into your favor going forward.

Oddly enough, the 2 who replied have pretty suspicious accounts and stats...

bruh there is no way martainstahl is a bot. you obviously don't know much about Chess.com. Martinstahl is a Chess.com moderator, and he has a real life job, so he can't be fake

the dude probably rarely plays on Chess.com, and only plays on lichess, and now he's back on cc

I am baffled by amount of people who can't accept that they lost and cling to whatever evidence they have that their game was rigged by an outside source.

also, an offbeat opening and strong attack is barely evidence. I'll try to find the game so I can see this for myself but maybe they just suck at openings?

There you go. 1400 vs 1500. My rating was 1700 3 weeks ago. I really don't understand what's going on with this website, as the previous user said, there's something odd going on. All these players, I've also noticed alot of players play horribly at the beginning then they take a long pause before playing best moves. I think it's unfair the way people dismiss people when they talk about fairplay

Sometimes I think there are a lot of people using game engines against me, but then again I don't always blunder check. I can play a 90%+ game one minute and a 65% game the next so....

HangingPiecesChomper

yup, fairly certain this site uses bad bots that lose on purpose to inflate ratings
