Starting a club

Hey all,

Iv recently come up with the idea and found the time to start a club this summer for anyone who wants to join here in Montpelier VA. Iv found a space I can use at least twice a week. However Im having trouble finding people who would be interested in playing. Iv put up flyers at the local library and gone to some churches.  Any advice?

I have a facebook set up for it

It is nice to have a bricks and mortar club but people have to commute to get there. It is so much easier to have chess clubs on the Internet. Conversely it is good to sit down face to face with an opponent the old fashioned way. Best of luck with your chess club formation.

The problem with flyers posted in libraries is that not all chess players will look a board. So I had a friend who placed flyers in chess books at all the public libraries in a 20 mile radius of the club. I always thought that was very clever.

Hope you will find some more ideas from here.

Try touse so-called "social nets", such as "facebook"or others (I don't know exactly which one is better for US). In Moscow I had such experience- helped a lot

But, of course, if people don't want to play, you can't do anything :(
