I am starting a chess club
also get flyers up at the schools, library, gym etc.
next, get TONS of boards.. you never want to be short and it will look like youre always expecting huge turnouts..
be ready to sacrifice one or 5 club sessions to help new players, as its worth it for growth
there are many ways you can do it. The best thing you can do is take suggestions and keep your ears open for new ideas. i'd say , either teach them some concept or analyze a position for part of it and then for at least half the time {if not more} let then just play. Best thing to do is not get too serious and yet manage to still have fun, and make it exciting for everybody involved. Look around for chess puzzles online and maybe consult an endgame book or two. Other than, all Ihave to say. Is good luck and have fun playing and maybe teaching!
I'm right with westcoachchess. Advertise and don't discourage. make the club open to all players who want to be invovled and help bring beginners up to level and speed. tons of boards, more encouraging definitely. also probably holding it in a public place is good because it can attract new members. Restraunts i've heard work pretty well. as long as you eat while your there, they will love having you. that or a local park or recreation center. make it someplace where you will be noticed and therefore make it all the more advertised.
