All of these lines can been seen on my article in the Theory Section:

http://www.chess.com/blog/X_PLAYER_J_X/the-santa-claus-attack

I have provided a nice picture and a brief description of the moves which make up the line.

Lines which I will be adding have been suggested by Arcieus

I will change up the names a little bit.

Lines which get the labeling of Counter usually involve a center hit directly on a center pawn.

For example:

In chess a few lines which have that are

Albin Counter

Center Counter

Falkbeer Counter

Thus, Instead of calling it the Present Counter.

I think maybe just the Present Defense might be ok.

Since black might not play d5.

They might play d6 defending the e5 pawn.

Which leaves some room of doubt.

2...c6 is the Present Defense

I will call the North Pole line a counter since it hits the e4 pawn directly.

2...d5 is the North pole counter

This line is named the Snow Man because ending formation will look like a snow man lol.

2...Be7 is the Snow Man Defense

We still have Unnamed moves and Unnamed variations

2...Bc5

2...Bb4

2...g6

Prologue1 mentioned the below variations

1.e4 e5 2.b3 Nc6 3.Bb2 g6 4.f4 Bg7 < #68

This will more than likely be the Mainline of the Elf Defense

1.e4 e5 2.b3 Nc6 3.Bb2 g6  4.Nf3 Bg7 < This line will be a side

line with the move 4.Nf3.

This side line is still Unnamed

1.e4 e5 2.b3 Nc6 3.Bb2 g6 4.f4 exf4 <  #70 & 74

A very Deadly Gambit line lol.

Which can get extremely sharp.

White is suppose to stand better.

However, it is playing with fire.

This line is still Unnamed

1.e4 e5 2.b3 Nc6 3.Bb2 g6 4.f4 Qh4+  < #74

This line was mentioned.

However, no one gave it a name.

This line is still Unnamed

1.e4 e5 2.b3 Nc6 3.Bb2 Nf6 4.d3

This line was mentioned.

However, no one gave it a name.

This line is still Unnamed

Robert_New_Alekhine mentioned the below variation post # 86

1. e4 e5 2. b3 Nc6 3. Bb2 Nf6 4. d3 d5 5. Nd2 Be6 6. Ngf3 Bd6 7. g3 Qd7 8. Bg2 O-O-O 9. Qe2 Rhe8 10. O-O-O

Will this be the mainline of the Unnamed Variation?

Not sure as of yet.

However, we will def need a name and some more cross checking for sure.

Arcieus mentioned the below variation post # 115 & 120

The Snow Man Defense

1.e4 e5 2.b3 Be7

Arcieus gave some analysis with this variation.

We will def need to cross check with more people for sure.

He gave 2 continuations with 3.Nf3 and 3.Ne2.

He suggested the line with 3.Nf3 as the mainline which seems reasonable.

However, we still need to cross check with 3.Ne2 and even the move 3.f4.

One of them will more than likely be the mainline.

Nevertheless this is great stuff!

The Present Defense

1.e4 e5 2.b3 c6

Arcieus gave some analysis with 3.Bb2.

However, on the diagram it shows move 3.Nf3 as mainline.

I am a little confused on which one is the mainline there.

The analysis for 3.Bb2 is for a side line or mainline?

I will be adding the Present and Snowman defense into the Theory Section.

However, we have plenty of time to talk over the mainlines of them and which ones are side lines vice versa!

I think it is a great start for sure.

We have some line names which have been mentioned by other people in this forum.

I do not know if we will use those names or not.

However, If you think they might go good under one of the unnamed lines we have be sure to let me know in the forum!

Chicken_Monster mentioned the name Egg Nog

Rychessmaster1 mentioned the name The Double Santa

If you have any line name idea's which are christmas related and think we might be able to use them.

You can tell us in forum.

Every little bit helps!

Lastly, We will have to discuss some of the mainlines to a few of the continuations we have done.

One mainline we will def need to talk over will be on the Grinch Defense.

1.e4 e5 2.b3 Nf6

The reason why is because believe it or not Chess Engines like the move 2...Nf6 here lol.

If you was wondering what does the engine think about Christmas!

Well the engine is trying to be the Grinch and it plays 2...Nf6

Which means we will have to talk about it.

Rochanb mentioned the below variation

1. e4 e5 2. b3 Nf6 3. Bb2 Nxe4 4. d3 Nf6 5. Bxe5

We will def need to talk over move 3 option's.

Such long comments...

Dalek

This is really fun!  I have recently discovered this great chess site, and I am still reading a lot in here, and playing, whenever I can with you good people.  And then I came to this topic on this forum and I simply find it great!  Greetings from Brazil, people, and very good games for you all!

@marcusrg

Thank you for joining.

Yeah we have been trying out a new line.

It does not even have a name.

I have been naming it the Santa Opening.

I figured it would be a nice little surpise weapon.

Maybe a seasonal christmas line which can be played when ever.

Obviously I do not recommend this is one of the very best openings.

There are a lot of lines in chess better.

However, if you are looking for a nice casual game for fun.

Surely it can't hurt to try this line out once and a while.

X_PLAYER_J_X

Here is a crazy game I played today with the Santa Claus Opening.

finn416

I have posted this before, but I will do it again.

I think that the following analysis is quite informative. What do you guys think?

X_PLAYER_J_X

@Fin

I like your first 3 moves.

After the move 3...Bb4.

I prefer the move 4.Ne2 which defends the knight on c3 and it keeps the e4 pawn guarded.

finn416

Hmm... good idea.

finn416

The Game Explorer seems to like 2...c5. Have we discussed this yet?

I am glad you bring this up because believe it or not.

If black plays 2...c5 the line tranposes into a line known as Sicilian Defense, Snyder Variation.

In the Sicilian Defense white can play this line with 2.b3.

In fact, top level players have played this 2.b3 line before against the Sicilian.

It is actually a reasonable line vs the Sicilian.

Which is the below diagram.

One very common set up black does in this type of position is to play the move e5.

Obviously e5 is not the only move.

However, it is top 3 I would say.

When you think about it it makes perfect sense!

Black is playing e5 trying to gain a bind on d4 + close down the dark bishop on b2.

The game may look something like below:

You can almost see how this same position can be reached a different way!

Which is why your database shows the move 2...c5 a lot.

It is because a lot of humans have played 2...e5 vs the b3 line in the Sicilian.

1.e4 c5  2.b4 e5!

Yeah it is a very trendy line.

Some players don't like to rush and they might play 2...Nc6 first than maybe play e5 later.

However, it is perfectly playable.
