King's Gambit is probably the hardest but the easiest is probably the English opening
Hardest (and easiest) opening to play?
Benko gambit is easy, but just a Benoni is definitely hard.
Any d6 sicilian is hard to play, as well as keeping the advantage in Catalan. The easiest opening for me would be...... nothing. Everything takes effort to play
The hardest is likely the KID, in which if you play the engine’s top recommendations for both sides from either the Bayonet (9. b4) or the Mar del Plata (9. Ne1), White will win. In other words, Black has a “forced” loss from the two most common theoretical lines while also having to have answers for roughly 20 other incredibly complex variations. That being said, new lines with Na6 c6 rather than e5 Nc6 are becoming more common, and those might revitalize the opening.
Similarly, the Dragon Sicilian is a massive theory book with 15-20 incredibly sharp, tactical variations, but White’s winning in the Mainline, so Black has a “forced” loss in the most common line as well as needing to have answers to many other highly theoretical lines. Again, similar to the KID, new lines with h5 Bh6 as opposed to simply Bg7 are becoming more common and these might revitalize this opening.
A3 is hard to play
