Bg5 Pirc: Black's plan?

I don't know what to do when, as Black, I face 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 g6 4.Bg5

The pin becomes uncomfortable if, as usual, I go for ...e5, but if I play h6, the h6 pawn becomes a target when the Bishop retreats to e3.  How should Black play this?

i personally would play 4.Nb8-d7

i also would play knight b8 to d7, that is the good defending knight, and if white takes he wastes tempo while you keep a knight on that good square.  h6 weakens the kingside.  although often i ll just pin the f knight with my white squared bishop, as i don t really think most people want to develop their dark squared just to immediately trade it.  also from the position you mentioned you shouldn t feel as though you have to play e5, that creates the pin in the first place and blocks your good fianchettoed bishop.  c5 or c6 is better and you should castle first anyways.  i play the pirc in response to e4 i have a good book on it by lev albut called 'pirc alert' i reccomend it although it is quite heavy reading and a lot of material.

I'm in agreement... Play Nb8-d7... Then you could continue with fianchettoing your bishop and castling... I second cmay suggestion. I think it's better to do c5 than e5. e5 blocks your fianchettoed bishop, meanwhile if you play c5 you could let the light squared bishop in passive stance.
