Best win with Milner Barry gambit

I’ve been having good luck with this opening in the ~2 months I have been playing it. I hated the French as white before but now I love to get it because not many are good at dealing with this gambit and there are SO many middle game traps so like the smith morra this opening can make things go very wrong for black. This game was great and against a tough opponent rated nearly 2200. 23. Nxd5!! Sealed the deal. In this opening the knight on c3 is often the star of the show because d5 can be very loose with that rook pin. Things can get cramped for black on the kingside because they are so behind in development, by having to deal with the numerous threats and traps on the kingside which can be very hard to see.

Nice game. I always liked this gambit, even though I've had mixed results with it myself. Black might have been better after 22...d4. But knight sac on d5 was brilly.

Interesting footnote: Stuart Milner-Barry was one of the "codebreakers" who deciphered the encrypted messages in the German's "Enigma" machine in World War II.

that’s a cool footnote. I will have to look up some of his games.

I’ve had such great results with this gambit so far and the move order is very similar game to game so I have some very nasty tactics that I know are there and can spot very quickly. It can be such a frustrating game as black as they’re getting tempo’d around the board while I’m improving my position. If they manage to avoid the traps on the queenside I just zip over to their cramped king side and it’s hard for them to even develop their pieces. Lots of problems to solve. I beat two 2150s with this opening today as a 1700!

Here's one of Milner-Barry's games with his namesake gambit.

Here's one of my best games with the Milner-Barry. Black blunders on move 25, missing the chance to force the game into an endgame. Lucky break for me; I'm notoriously bad in endgames.

@theronster456 that’s a nice game. They always seem to go like that with this opening. Crazy sacrifices one after the other.
