I have often used this defense known to me as the "Italian Defense" (guess I've had it wrong) but find that I am in a reactive mode with respect to the rest of the board after it's set up. It has proven very effective protecting the King on its side of the board though.
Using this defense presents a problem for me on how to set up a pawn structure on the board's other side that provides for the effective use of the other bishop.
