When I was 4, I was watching at my grandma’s apartment (she was looking after me, they had no place in the kindergarten) I was watching gigantic 1984-‘85 battle between Karpov and Kasparov.

Karpov has became my first *sports* hero. I had the honour of meeting him in person, and pleasure to see how many contemporary GMs he influenced.

Get better soon Tolya!

I hope the best for him also.

Latest news (Nov 8th) is that he is out of intensive care and has been moved to a normal ward.

Fingers crossed that he continues to improve and makes a full recovery.

Indeed.

Thank you, I couldn’t find any update.

Glad to hear that he is doing better.

Kasparov and Karpov are the only players I know since childhood. I vaguely remember them being on tv and I must have been about 4 years old. I remember nothing about the chess just the aesthetic appeal it all had. Hope he finds a way to get better.

He's a great defensive player. He made the Caro-Cann fashionable. He is a positional boa constrictor. I wonder if Fischer would have beaten him. He's a great player and a sportsman. One of my idols. I wish him well.
