I have had one class so far and he explained about the importance of pawn breaks and imbalances in chess. I liked his teaching style and answers all your doubts. I am looking forward to another session in the days to come happy.png

I have recently started with Coach Kestony.  My experience so far has been very good.  He is able to communicate chess theory very well using practical examples.  By challenging me and forcing me to think through positions he helps to develop critical thinking skills and improve my ability to analyze difficult situations.  He helps his students to develop a systematic approach to the game of chess, principles that can be applied universally. I enjoy his sense of humor and passion for the game.

  Thanks Coach Kestony.

I've had two lessons from Kestyony.  So far I have really enjoyed them.  I'm a definite beginner and he really takes the time to explain basic tactics and game plan.  I like the structure of the lessons.  We review previous topics, take on a new topic then look over a game.   He has a great sense of humor he brings to the skype call as well.  I'm very happy and will continue to take lessons and improve over time.

I recently started working with Kestony and it's amazing to see how well prepared he is. He has a very deep knowledge of the game and what to teach students and he has an amazing amount of material to teach students. Every other lessen we analyze my games, every other lesson he shows me some examples from his very well selected collection of games to illustrate ideas. This makes the ideas much easier to understand and remember.

He is the best, that is no question. He runs into trouble on how to pour his knowledge into our little brains. ahahahahahj

I-Like-To-Play

I've been fortunate enough to be a member of more than one championship athletics team in my life and credit much of the success to excellent coaching and believe I've come to be able to recognize a great coach when I come across one.  Now that I've taken up chess with a passion, I believe I've found such a coach in Kestony.  His lessons are meticulously planned.  He is patient.  He has the hard-to-find gift of making it clear where he wants to lead you while giving you enough room to learn to think for yourself, make the wrong move all beginners make, and then most importantly provide instruction on how to improve on mistakes in a way that's encouraging rather than discouraging.  You come of out Kestony's lessons truly having learned something each time.

Kestony is a young and passionate chess coach, who has greatly helped me improve my thinking around chess and positional play. He is easy going and friendly making you feel relaxed during lessons and stay focused on learning. The lesson is usually 1h, where you will discuss and analyze positions together. After the lesson there is homework, so you can have a chance to practice and cement learnt knowledge. I am an intermediate chess player and Kestony helped me improve my play a lot. I wholeheartedly recommend Kestony for all chess enthusiasts who wish to develop their skills to the next level.

EDIT: I have written an update below. Thanks

Thanks to Kestony I've been able to improve my game a lot. My classical rating has improved over 200 on lichess as I play there mostly and my rapid game has improved over 300 points here. Great coach. Looking forward to keep learning and enjoying the game with him.

Kestony is far most one of the best coaches that I have come across his lessons are affordable he takes his time and teaches step by step not rushing. I’ve had two lessons with him and looking forward to our next lesson. His coaching methods are superb. Thank you

Like the guys above Kestony asked me to post about my progress, I am glad to do so, as he deserves every word I am going to write.

We had our first lesson on 4th August 2019 and today is 1st October 2019. We worked nearly continuously and had regular lessons for an hour twice a week (1h x 2 / week) . Nearly continuously, because I also I had to take a 10 day break due to business abroad. So overall, we probably worked together let's say around 45 days.

Frankly, during this time I worked pretty hard to improve my chess. I solved thousands of puzzles at chess.com, lichess.org and chesstempo.com, I played chess nearly on a daily basis, I studied books and theory, no matter how tired, or busy I was. So take my words with a grain of salt, as there is no improvement without your own blood and tears. :-)

Kestony asked me to play long time control games, instead of blitz. I was forced to think more, stopped blunders and my game gradually matured. He then reviewed my games helped me cut down unnecessary mistakes further. He showed me tricks and asked me to solve strategic puzzles, which improved my long-term planning and vision on the board.

Here is my progress: 236 chess.com elo points/45days =+5.67/day.

Probably I still suck, and have a ton to learn, but no doubt Kestony is a great coach.

To all that want to learn and understand chess, understand is the key. We all know that the three phases of chess are very infinite. Chess is a mirror upon a mirror that views the board. Endless. If you want a person, call him a couch if you choose, I consider him a friend. Keystone, one that will find out who you are and where you stand, thus allowing him to tailor a program made for you. For we are all different and learn at various speeds. He assist you to grow, never making you feel lesser. There is the key. So if you are looking for someone to guide you on your journey in the world of chess learning. Search no more. For you have found the diamond that will guide you as you know how to learn. That is my take on this teacher, a master, a friend, the couch.

Kestony is an amazing coach. We have only had two lessons{once a week} and already I can see a lot of improvement especially in my tactics due to how he taught me to calculate properly. Within ten days my tactics rating went from 1500 to 1700 while before that it had been between 1400 and 1500 for over a month.

I thought I understood the nitty gritties of the chess game, but ever since my first lesson with Kestony, He opened my eyes to areas I didn't know mattered. And the best part of it all is that his lesson made sense. He is worth every buck and more! Personally, I'd recommend him to anyone looking for results, not just a coach,

I had my first lesson with Kestony this evening. The short version...Fantastic!
The slightly longer version:
Kestony immediately put me at ease and explained what we were going aim for, why and how we were going to accomplish it. He was really patient and encouraging the whole lesson and also organised and methodical. His explanations were clear and well articulated and he has a good sense of humour.
As a full time teacher of over 30 years myself (woodwind instruments in schools) I can vouch for the fact that playing and teaching are two very different skill sets. Many great players, be it chess or music, don’t do the lesson prep and put the time into the student, to be good effective teachers. It was a pleasant surprise to find that Kestony was organised, prepared, methodical and actually had an interest in getting me from the lowly 950 rating I’m currently at to something more respectable. He has a clearly worked out plan for my progress rather than so many coaches that just do a few puzzles, play a game or two and times up.
I’ll post further updates as we continue but after my first lesson, the impression I’m left with is that Kestony is the real deal. A player who CAN teach, WANTS to teach and puts in the necessary time and effort to do it as it should be done.

I’m rated around 1600 OTB and I was nervous about giving my money to another online chess coach, but I sure am happy I did. Kestony restored my faith in finding someone that genuinely cares about his students improving. He has a system that I believe can be tailored to help anyone get pass whatever is preventing them from excelling in chess. After our first lesson I realized that my fundamental understanding of chess was severely lacking. I immediately understood why I could never get over my rating hump. I was surprised to learn that I didn’t really understand the game I’ve been playing for years.

I know Kestony has a plan and process to help me look at chess in a way that I have never seen it before. I believe that if I truly buy into the system that he has mapped out for me he will get me to my goal of a 2000 rating.

Kestony is a great coach, but don’t think it will be easy. He will need you to do your part too. I look forward to him tearing down the chess house I constructed out of straw and replacing it with a castle made out of stone.

I had another lesson with Kestony this week. I can only do lessons once every two weeks at the moment which isn’t as often as either I or Kestony would like but he doesn’t make me feel like a less important student for all that.
Since our last lesson, I’d played in one of the <1200 15/10 Rapid Swiss Tournaments that are hosted here on Chess.com
I scored a Bronze with a 3/5 result and gained 27 or so rating points but I think I got quite lucky. The games were full of blunders by both sides which is normal at this level.
Kestony had suggested I try to make notes on my thinking/ideas/ calculations whilst I played and then annotate and analyse my games to help both him and myself get an insight into the WHY behind my move choices.
I did that and we went over games in the lesson which was enormously helpful. Kestony was very much into the WHY of each move (both mine and my opponent’s) rather than just the opening book says so.
It was immediately obvious that my biggest weakness was tactical blunders and miscalculations. In Kestony’s words (I’m paraphrasing)...
“You’re like a 1000 player who has an understanding of opening and strategy of 1200 but a tactics level of 800.”
So we worked on some tactics puzzles together where Kestony taught me how to change the wayI approach solving tactical problems. It was a real “Ah Ha!” moment for me.
Again, Kestony was very patient during what must have been an incredibly boring lesson for someone of his level as he waited while I spotted a mate in 2 etc but he never made me feel bad about it and instead encouraged and prodded me into changing what I was looking at and looking for until I started to get the hang of it.
Finally we set some realistic and achievable goals for the next 6 months or so which I’m determined to achieve.
Another fantastic lesson and I look forward to our next one. 👍💯
